Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend.
I spent all day Friday in studio. We have some great shows coming up on See Hear Love including our Easter series and a show on why people do not go to church. The church show talks about the decline in church attendance and why that might be. In between shows, I watched Billy Graham’s funeral in the green room. He was not perfect, but he was a lovely man. I saw him when he came to Toronto to preach at the Skydome. I was in a very different place spiritually back then and just wanted to see what the fuss was about. I remember how impressive it was to see so many faithful people together in one huge space. I’m not drawn to megachurch theology, but always think it’s cool when you get that many like-minded people at once. It’s the same reason I love going to a basketball game, but rarely sit and watch one at home. There’s something in a collective experience that’s so cool. And that – I think – is the church’s secret sauce. Well, that and the coffee after.
After the taping, I had dinner out with girlfriends, which was so much fun, but I’m a capital I introvert so was exhausted when I got home. Thankfully, I’d taken off my makeup and changed into sweatpants at work, so could just drop into bed. I can’t believe there was a time in my life when I did not go out until 11pm.
I spent a lot of the weekend reading Lysa TerKeurt’s Unglued: Making Wise Choices in the Midst of Raw Emotions and, man, can I relate. I wear my emotions on my sleeve. I love everything TerKeurst writes. She’s just so real. She’s a non-preachy Bible teacher if you can believe in such a thing.
One of my favourite shows airs today on See Hear Love on YES TV at 8:30pm EST. It’s about how to love you family well. There are lots of wise words for newlyweds, long-time married, and people with and without kids. Also, I want guest Brooke Nicholls’s jacket a lot. You can watch the show below.
Keep calm and carry on, friends.
